Markets around Gul Plaza in Karachi have remained closed for the last 12 days, affecting hundreds of businesses. Due to this extended shutdown, normal commercial activities in the area are still completely suspended.
Shopkeepers from nearby markets have started protesting against the prolonged closure. They say that keeping markets closed for so many days has caused serious financial losses and disrupted daily business operations.
Traders from surrounding markets gathered near Gul Plaza to raise their concerns. They stated that the restrictions have pushed them into economic distress, and many shop owners are now uncertain about their future.Markets such as Gul Tejara and Rampa Plaza, located next to Gul Plaza, remain closed by authorities. Several other commercial areas nearby have also been sealed, severely affecting hundreds of shops and halting daily economic activity.

Shopkeepers added that major roads around Gul Plaza are closed to traffic, making it difficult for customers to reach the markets. This has further reduced sales and increased problems for traders.
Protesters claimed that businesses have remained shut for 12 consecutive days, causing heavy financial losses. They said pending orders could not be completed, damaging their trust and reputation with clients and suppliers.

According to traders, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has declared several buildings in the area structurally safe. Despite this, authorities have not allowed markets to reopen, frustrating business owners.Shopkeepers said they have submitted formal complaints to the Deputy Commissioner South office and urged the government to implement an immediate plan to reopen markets while ensuring proper safety measures.
Traders added that even though shops are closed, they still have to pay rent, staff salaries, and other fixed expenses. The continued shutdown has increased their financial burden, and many fear for their livelihoods.
