Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief calls for CM and mayor’s resignation, announces “Jeene Do Karachi March” on February 1

Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Muneem Zafar Khan has criticized the Sindh government, saying it has turned Karachi into a “market of announcements,” where ministers repeatedly promise development work but fail to deliver. He said the party’s future plan will be shared during the “Jeene Do Karachi March” on Shahrah-e-Faisal on February 1.

Speaking at a press conference at Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi’s head office, Idara Noor-e-Haq, Muneem Zafar Khan claimed that billions of rupees announced for Karachi’s development exist only on paper. He said Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Sharjeel Memon, and the chief minister frequently announce new packages without visible progress.

He highlighted that KMC announced Rs46 billion for development work, followed by another Rs21 billion recently. Despite these funds, the city’s conditions continue to deteriorate. He criticized the slow progress of the Karimabad underpass, started in 2023, while Islamabad completed three underpasses in 72 days. He also said the Red Line project has become dangerous, claiming three fatalities so far.

“Karachi has become a market of announcements where ministers keep promising billions but deliver nothing on the ground.” — Muneem Zafar Khan

Muneem Zafar Khan demanded that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Mayor Murtaza Wahab resign, citing moral responsibility after the Gul Plaza tragedy. He noted that, two weeks after the incident, many victims’ remains have still not been handed over. Of the 87 reported deaths, only 42 have been identified through DNA tests, while 17–18 funeral prayers were held in the city yesterday.

He said Karachi has become highly unsafe, where neither life nor property is secure. He added that the Gul Plaza tragedy exposed 18 years of mismanagement, incompetence, and corruption by the PPP government. He criticized the lack of equipment and preparedness in departments such as the fire brigade, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and PDMA.
