Increase PHEC Salary: Punjab HEC may raise salaries of 114 employees by 75–85%, costing up to 3 billion rupees annually.
Salary hike for Punjab Higher Education Commission employees may cost government up to 3 billion rupees annually.
A proposal has been made to increase the salaries of officers and employees working in the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). According to the proposal, monthly salaries may be increased by 75 to 85 percent.
Reports say that salaries at PHEC have been frozen since 2017, and after this increase, the monthly salary of a director could reach up to 700,000 rupees. The salary of the Director General may increase to 647,000 rupees per month. Other senior officers may also start getting monthly salaries between 400,000 and 600,000 rupees.
It is said that this salary increase will apply to only 114 employees, but it will put an annual burden of about 2.8 to 3 billion rupees on the government. At the same time, many important provincial projects in education, health, and infrastructure are already facing a shortage of funds.

Sources say that this proposal is being moved forward without proper approval from the Finance Department and the Higher Education Department. Earlier, the Finance Department had stopped extra salaries because they were against existing rules.
It is also reported that PHEC employees are already receiving high salaries and many benefits. These include a fuel allowance of 150 liters, medical facilities, and a 20 percent annual increment. These benefits are said to be much higher than basic pay scales and even higher than the salaries of provincial bureaucrats.
