Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry says Lahore safer than London, defends Pakistan’s security amid Senate concerns.
State Minister for Interior insists Pakistan ranks among the safest countries despite criticism from Senate colleagues.
State Minister for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry has claimed that Lahore is safer than London and that Pakistan is one of the safest countries in the world.
He made these remarks during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior. During the meeting, the chairman discussed the issue of black tinted windows on vehicles, saying that in other countries people pay extra fees for such windows. If someone needs them for security or personal reasons, they should pay a fee instead of violating the law.
The chairman also mentioned that in the previous meeting, the committee had instructed authorities not to take action until a proper policy was formed. Despite this, some people were fined up to 50,000 rupees.

Responding, Senator Talal Chaudhry said that the committee should provide guidance, as there is no clear federal or provincial policy. When asked how fines were being imposed without a policy, he explained that action was being taken under an excise law.
He further stated that certificates for black windows had been issued 10 years ago but were misused. He added that black windows have now become a fashion trend, with many people citing skin diseases as excuses. Talal Chaudhry emphasized that the existing law allows a fine of 50,000 rupees.
During the meeting, committee member Samina Mumtaz raised serious security concerns. She said the police are unable to protect citizens, citing that six police officers in the Katcha area were involved in the rape of a minor girl. She also mentioned that one of their members had been martyred due to security issues.

Responding to these concerns, Talal Chaudhry said that Pakistan is the fifth most populous country in the world and crimes like rape happen everywhere. He reiterated his claim that Lahore is safer than London.
However, Senator Talha Mehmood disagreed, stating that people are being stopped and killed in Upper Dir. He questioned how the minister could claim that Pakistan is safer than cities like London and New York.
