US Israel Strikes, Mosque in Zanjan hit as attacks kill four and damage cultural heritage sites across the country
According to Iranian media, four people were killed and a Shiite shrine was damaged in a joint US-Israeli airstrike in northwestern Iran. What I have learned has deeply concerned me about the safety of people and the protection of cultural sites, especially when war is a war and ordinary people are also being affected.
According to state television, the attack on Zanjan’s Ferdowsi Street by the Subhan movement has reached the grand Hussainiya, which is used for Shiite gatherings and mourning. Some of the beauty of the dome and minaret was also damaged in the attack.
According to the Islamic Students News Agency (ISNA), four people were killed and 26 others were injured, the country’s deputy provincial governor, Ali Seddiqi, said. The war also damaged the historical site of Ahmadiyya. According to the United Nations, four of Iran’s 29 UNESCO heritage sites have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Janmashtami Golestan Palace, the Chahal Sutun Palace, the Jama Masjid and the prehistoric sites of the Khorramabad Valley.
Local officials have since expressed deep concern over the scale of the change. Ahmad Alavi, who heads the Tehran City Council’s Heritage Committee, said that since the war, work has reached a milestone of 120 historical or symbolic sites of Ahmadiyya, including neighborhoods within neighborhoods, gems within neighborhoods, and the Saadabad Palace complex. The statement was made on state TV, and there has been concern in the community about the number of heritage sites.
