WhatsApp Switches to Klipy for GIFs as Tenor Service Ends in 2026

iOS users will automatically see Klipy instead of Tenor for GIFs, with improved GIF keyboard layout showing more options.

WhatsApp is going to make a big change in its iOS app. Right now, people use Tenor to search for GIFs, but soon WhatsApp will replace it with Klipy. This is because Tenor will stop its service in mid-2026, and new apps cannot use Tenor anymore. If WhatsApp did not switch, people would not be able to search for GIFs properly.

The update was first seen in the WhatsApp beta for iOS. Users do not have to do anything, because the app will automatically start using Klipy. When people share a new GIF, they will see a “Klipy” label instead of Tenor. Klipy works like Tenor and GIPHY and gives Animation stickers, and memes.

“Switching to Klipy ensures WhatsApp users can continue searching for Animation seamlessly without interruption.”

WhatsApp is also improving the GIF keyboard. It will show three columns of Animation instead of two, so users can see 50% more GIFs at once. Right now, some users get GIFs from GIPHY and others from Tenor. After the update, Tenor users will be moved to Klipy automatically, but GIPHY users will stay the same. WhatsApp wants to always keep at least two Animation providers so that Animation searches do not stop, just like other apps such as Discord.
