Kite flying prohibited in parks and green belts as authorities enforce safety rules ahead of Basant celebrations.

In Lahore, the government has announced an important rule for Basant 2026. Kite flying has been completely banned in parks, green belts, and lawns across the city. This restriction applies only to public places and is aimed at ensuring public safety.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Lahore issued this order and sent an official notice to all zone directors. They were clearly instructed to strictly stop kite flying in all parks under their control.

A PHA official said,
“The ban on kite flying in parks and green belts is necessary to protect families and prevent accidents during Basant.”

According to the notice, each zone director will be personally responsible for enforcing the ban. No excuses will be accepted. If kite flying is seen in any park, the concerned zone director will be held accountable.

PHA also warned that strict departmental action will be taken against officers who fail to follow the order. Authorities said negligence will not be tolerated during the Basant festival.

The main reason behind this ban is safety. Officials want to prevent accidents and ensure that public spaces remain secure for families during Basant.

Last month, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lahore announced limited permission for kite flying. He said that kite flying will be allowed only from 6 to 8 February 2026, and strictly under approved rules.

The government has also fixed rules for kite size and the type of thread that can be used. Authorities say these measures are designed to allow people to enjoy Basant while avoiding dangerous incidents.

The Deputy Commissioner Lahore said in the notification,

“Kite flying will be allowed only on designated dates with approved materials to ensure safety for all citizens.”

The Deputy Commissioner shared this decision through an official notification numbered ADC(G)/2025/1190, issued today. According to the notification, kite flying will be allowed only on 6th, 7th, and 8th February 2026, using approved materials only.

The notification also includes clear rules for the manufacturing, sale, and use of kites. These regulations follow the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Ordinance, 2025, to make sure public safety is fully protected.
