Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 participation uncertain after ICC ousts Bangladesh; government in talks with PCB.

Government to decide after consultations with PCB; final call expected soon.

There is still confusion about whether Pakistan will participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The uncertainty comes after the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed Bangladesh from the tournament for refusing to play matches in India, raising questions about Pakistan’s stance.

Although the Pakistan cricket squad for the T20 World Cup has already been announced, the final decision on participation has not yet been made. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss whether the national team should take part in the tournament. This meeting is considered crucial, and sources say the issue will also be discussed with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that consultations are ongoing and the public will be informed once a final decision is taken.

Government consultation will ensure a fair and safe decision regarding participation in the World Cup.

Mohsin Naqvi stated that Pakistan rejects what it sees as the ICC’s double standards and emphasized that politics should not interfere with cricket. He said Pakistan’s players are skilled, competitive, and capable of performing anywhere in the world. He also highlighted that the government, not the ICC, will make the ultimate decision regarding participation.

Earlier, Bangladesh refused to travel to India for its World Cup matches due to security concerns and requested their matches be moved to Sri Lanka. The ICC rejected this request and replaced Bangladesh with Scotland. Following this, reports suggested that Pakistan might also consider not playing if Bangladesh boycotted the event.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on 7 February, and Pakistan’s matches are planned to be held in Sri Lanka. Cricket fans are eagerly awaiting the government’s final decision on the team’s participation.
