Hundreds of thousands apply for new gas connections as government eases restrictions, creating operational challenges for SNGPL.
LAHORE: After the federal government ended the ban on new gas connections, Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) received a very large number of applications for new gas connections, ARY News reported on Thursday.
Last year, the government decided to remove the ban on new gas connections for homes. This information was shared earlier by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.
According to SNGPL officials, managing such a huge number of applications at the same time has become a big challenge for the company.

Under the Fast Track category, about 400,000 applications have been received so far. Sui Gas authorities confirmed this number.
At the same time, nearly 300,000 applications were received under the normal merit category, according to SNGPL officials.
Under the Fast Track scheme, around 29,000 new gas connections have already been installed. Officials also said that 36,000 connection conversion cases have been completed, and consumers were given updated pre-paid demand notices.
“The response from consumers clearly shows how strong the demand for domestic gas connections has remained despite years of restrictions.”
So far, a total of 64,000 new RLNG-based gas connections have been provided, SNGPL Sees Massive Surge in Applications After Gas Connection Ban Lifted SNGPL officials confirmed.

Meanwhile, the federal government has decided not to increase gas prices further from January 1.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik shared this update while briefing the National Assembly Standing Committee on Petroleum.
He told the committee that, following the Prime Minister’s instructions, gas prices will not be increased from January 2026.
“Keeping gas prices unchanged will provide some relief to households already struggling with rising living costs.”
The minister also said that the gas circular debt is not increasing anymore, but it is still very high at around Rs 3 trillion. This amount includes Late Payment Surcharges (LPS).
He also added that Qatar has continued its gas contract with Pakistan on the same terms, even during difficult global conditions.
