Elon Musk and Sam Altman Fight Over ChatGPT Safety

The disagreement between Elon Musk and Sam Altman over ChatGPT Safety has become much stronger recently.

Elon Musk and Sam Altman are once again arguing, and this time it is about the safety of ChatGPT. Elon Musk, who owns X and runs the AI company xAI, said that ChatGPT is not safe and could be dangerous for people.

Elon Musk replied to a post on X and said that ChatGPT has been connected to some suicide cases of adults and teenagers. After that, he shared the post again and warned people by saying, “Don’t let your loved ones use ChatGPT.” His message scared many people and started a big discussion online.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, quickly replied to Elon Musk’s comments. He defended ChatGPT and said that Musk keeps changing his opinion. Altman said that sometimes Musk complains that ChatGPT is too strict, and other times he says it is too open. He also explained that almost one billion people use ChatGPT, and some users are already very weak or stressed mentally.

Altman said that OpenAI feels a big responsibility to keep ChatGPT safe for everyone. He added that these cases are very sad and difficult, and they should be talked about with care and respect. He said the company is always trying to improve safety.

Sam Altman also criticised Elon Musk’s companies. He said that more than 50 people have died in accidents linked to Tesla’s Autopilot system. Altman shared that he once used Autopilot and felt it was not safe enough. He also criticised Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, and said its decisions are questionable.

Altman made a strong comment, saying that Musk often blames others for the same problems he has himself. This shows how serious the fight between them has become.

This argument is happening while Elon Musk is fighting a big legal case. He is asking for a very large amount of money, between 79 billion and 134 billion dollars, from OpenAI and Microsoft. He says they cheated him. The court trial will happen in late April in Oakland.

Elon Musk left OpenAI’s board in 2018. Later, in 2023, he started his own AI company called xAI. In 2024, he officially started the legal case, which has now made the fight between Musk and Altman even bigger.
